Already on Yosemite now and it's laggy compared to Mavs. I have a large enough extra USB drive.

What are the steps? Dumb it down for me.

First make the bootable usb: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1801963

Then boot up startup manager with option key.

Then select the usb and bootup from that.

There will be a disk utility there. Use that to erase the drive.

Then quit disk utility and install yosemite to the newly formatted drive.

I've done a clean install before and I don't remember doing anything on terminal. All this just sounds confusing. We're operating on a Mac here man.

definitive said in that other thread that you can use an app at http://liondiskmaker.com/ to make the bootable usb if you prefer not to use terminal.

That app is just a front-end for the terminal command so the end result is the same.

The time it took you to reply to Ty, you could have had the USB installer setting up. It isn't anymore difficult than replying to a post.

    Don't be so lazy.

It doesn't matter. He (like me) is probably not on macrumors 24/7.

Btw, erase which drive? The macintoshHD drive? Your directions aren't even clear.

In disk utility, it is the second Macintosh HD you need to highlight and erase, not the top one.
