How do I download video files...

and other types of files...directly to my iPad 10.5 Pro without using a crutch like iCloud? There seems to be no such facility in Firefox, Chrome. or Safari?

I use Workflow to download files - https://workflow.is/workflows/bd78d20c01a941048c285a8cc096cc40

There are even Workflows for downloading YouTube videos - get an app like Documents by Readdle as your file system

There are a couple of video download apps in App Store,which one that fit your need is up to you.

I've tried a couple of those...they don't seem to be able to download directly to my new iPad.

Get the iCab browser, it does direct downloading.

Otherwise, I use to do it in Goodreader (through it's browser), but I imagine the Documents app does it too.

But check out iCab first.

If the video file is embeded in a website, you will need to use some workflow to filter out the embed URL and then download it. Check Workflow App for that.
