How do I enable the use of a USB MIDI controller over Apple Remote Desktop?

I'm running Ableton Live on my Macbook Pro and I'm controlling the MBP with my little Macbook running Apple Remote Desktop. OK - all well and good. Full keyboard/trackpad control. The problem is that when I plug my uc-33e controller into the Macbook, the commands do not get through! How do I go about enabling this?
