I've downloaded the iBooks app and I have some epub files that I got from outside of iTunes. How do I get them onto iTunes and into iBooks?

Or is iBooks a completely closed environment?

Open iTunes, go to Preferences, click Show Books.

Drag the epub books into the book section.

Highlight your files and drag it to iTunes library and it will have a new section called "Books" with your books in there.

Then you can sync them to your iPad... Similar to if you create your own ringtones..

Don't forget to check out calibre free ebook mgmt software (all platforms). I find it easier to organize all the metadata and cover images in calibre before moving them to iTunes.
