I keep reading about Mail and Notes serving up a three-panel display when you have your iPad Pro in landscape. How do you get this? I can't make it work. A lot of the descriptions say to click an icon in the top left-hand corner, but that just toggles between 1- and 2-panel display.

Do I need to have multiple folders to get this to work in Notes?

Do I need to have multiple email accounts to get this to work in Mail?

I can't figure it out.

I haven't seen any mention of 3 panel split screen on iOS 10. Can you please direct me to where this has been mentioned. A screenshot would be great if anyone has one.
Maybe you are talking about normal (2 window) split screen with 'slide over' or maybe with the sidebar still showing?

The only additions to split screen that I am aware of is 2 safari windows side by side and 2 mail windows side by side.

Thanks

It's not a split screen type function. It's just those two apps showing three hierarchical levels of information in a single window at once instead of the usual two:

Notes: Notes folders/List of notes in selected folder/Content of selected note
Mail: Mail menu/List of email in selected box/Content of selected email
