I have a high end macbook at home, maybe i can ebay it and keep the macbook pro and buy a macbook air with the money coming from my old macbook.

I am planing to go to an apple store today or tomorrow ( saturday ).
I say take it. Even if you have to sell one of your machines, this is a good deal. I assume they're offering this with no promises of refunding your $400. Even then it seems like you're coming out ahead.

Yes, they are not refunding my $ 400. I asked`em about my applecare on my macbook air. She said that i have to discuss that with the apple store manager in store. She could not find any notes on the case about an applecare warranty. But she said the new one comes with 12 months warranty :)

Edit:
And a quick question,
Is there a huge difference between base mbp and the high end mbp ? And why are offering the high end macbook pro?

Basically they are offering you the same Apple $'s as the high end MacBook Air or MacBook Pro -- $2499.

I'm quite sure they'd let you trade over to a MacBook Air high end if you wish.

---

However, remember you are in the old machine about $2050 if you include AppleCare -- so it isn't a smoking deal if you have to add AppleCare on the current machine. Something which should have been transferred over by the account rep on the new machine if you had it on the original machine.

If you have the box and simply never registered it, and you ask for a MacBook Air high end instead you should still be able to make use of the AppleCare Box.

Also think about this, if you have to buy AppleCare for the MacBook Pro high end you'll be in it at around $2500 -- which is basically free AppleCare on a machine you didn't want in the first place.

And an all round sucky deal, if they don't comp you AppleCare and not make you pay for it again.

Almost should ask for the $2050+tax back and ask for a free high end iPod to simply walk away and buy again later.

All good points, thanks for that.

Yes my applecare goes down the drain in the deal i guess. But this time, is it possible to return the applecare if they give me a new one in the box. Because if they do that is like $ 350 plus tax. After the refund ( even a store credit ) i can always buy applecare from ebay around $ 170 ( i think ).

Am i making any sense?

If you registered the old AppleCare, it is flushed ... if you still have the old shrinkwrapped one -- you should talk to them about letting you swap you unused copy from the MacBook Air for a MacBook Pro version.

If they give you a copy, use it. Don't think of returning it.

The deal is a new high end machine for $2050 -- if you give them grief they will cut you loose and return that amount, not the value of the upgrades and freebies.

Just an idea...

Is it possible to ask the store manager for a base model mbp and get something else for the difference. I mean there is a $ 500 difference between those two machines. I can use that towards ram ( make it 4 gig ) and ipod touch ( which i can ebay it also ).
Or should i take the high end mbp and benefit from its usage ( if there is any between base model ) ?
