I am primarily an Android person but I could not resist the new iPad 12.9 version 4 which allows me to connect hard drives, USB drives etc. That was a proverbial game changer for me. I have several hundred MP3 files on my Windows 10 computer which I have copied to a folder and put it in the folders section of my iPad. However, I do not know how to incorporate those into the operating system so I can play them with a music application that will allow me to create setlists and so forth.

I can go into the folder containing the music and click an individual file and it will play but that is as far as I've got. I want to be able to open up a music application and play all the files from within that application but I am at a loss as to how that is done since I do not have iTunes and apparently it can't be downloaded as an individual standalone player.

Thanks to all who respond.

I recently looked into this same issue and determined there is no way to pull locally-downloaded music into the Music app except by using a computer.

Hi,

My way of doing this is to connect the iPad to a computer with iTunes on it. The iPad should show up in iTunes as a device (see attachment). Then on the computer in iTunes, click on the iPad device icon. Then drag and, drag and drop the mp3's and they will transfer to the iPad.

Jut for the record I tried that last suggestion and when I clicked the icon I was given an option of syncing the filed on my computer to the Ipad which I did. Maybe things have changed in the OS since you used that method. I have Ipados 13.4

I use a combo of imazing, Dropbox, and Readdle Documents to add and play my mp3s. I despise iTunes and the built in music player!

Google the desktop app called imazing. I don’t know if it will let you add music directly to the built-in music player, but it might. It is an app that lets you drag and drop files to apps on the phone. I use an app call Documents by Readdle on my phone to play music. You can drag and drop to that app using imazing. Alternatively you can add music to Documents by Dropbox. The Documents app is amazing, I can download and unzip files into it, play movies of nearly any format, read PDFs, and so on.

I should say that if you wanna use the built in music app, you have to use iTunes to transfer music. I stopped using iTunes a few years ago when it corrupted and I lost all my music artwork and music disappeared. Maybe it’s better now, but I’ll never rely on it again.
