Will Kicking It Help?

I made a cool sound file on a website for this purpose, but it doesn't give you a way to download anything (there's no way to get the audio playing on a separate tab and save that, and page source doesn't show it). I don't want to make a huge screen recording video file in order to capture sound… How do I record JUST sound playing on a website? Any audio format playable on the Mac would be great!

The copyright gestapo has criminalized all recording. Whatever it is you are trying to record, they will claim they own it.

Here are two apps that will do what you want:

If it's just a short track then the free/trial version will do. You get "noise" after about 10 minutes otherwise.

Interesting that those are both from the same company.

Edit: Wow, Apple seriously does not want you running this. You have to reboot in a certain way, lower security prefs, and then reboot again just to instal it. They are no longer the computer for the rest of us. 🙁

You can also record through analog using a device like this:

I have an older version of this and find the results about the same as a camcorder mic. But using the line-input is rather weak on the high end. It's good enough for voice though.

macOS Ventura has got a new way to record audio that doesn't need any third party plugin. You can get OBS, add "macOS Screen Capture" as a source and capture both audio and video, without the need of any audio plugin.

What is OBS? I can't find it.

Install Blackhole Virtual Audio Driver:

Follow the simple Guide from Blackhole on how to record System Audio.
https://github.com/ExistentialAudio/BlackHole#record-system-audio
The Guide suggests GarageBand, but you can also use QuickTimePlayer --> New Audio Recording --> Set Blackhole 2ch as Input Device.

EDIT: Added Link to Guide.
