I bought the Renpho Smart Scale from Amazon and should have it on Friday, January 12th. I already have unsmart scales but I wanted one that is Apple Health compatible and did-bone density and body water determinations. Additionally, nice graphs which can display trends and tendencies. I can printout the graphs and bring them in for grand rounds.
Body weight in dialysis is broken down into dry and wet body weight. Dry body weight is your measurement after the dialytic procedure when fluid and toxins/metabolites are removed. Wet weight is what you actually weigh when you come into dialysis, but before the procedure. Periodically your dry weight gets reassigned depending on actual non water body weight changes.
Body water is important b/c then I’ll know when I’ve gotta start laying off the coffee (free fluid intake allowed is ~36 oz per day).
Bone density will allow me (or more properly the dialysis team) when I have to take more Phosphorus binder (basically if you overdo it on phosphorus/phosphate containing foods it strips Calcium from your bones, and then SNAP, next thing you know, a broken bone of some kind).
Long story short - it’s another tool to help monitor an ongoing issue.

(I do not want a transplant until after I turn 65, b/c then I would have to go back to work and that would mean I would have to start euthanizing animals again - and pardon my language but **** that ****)
