I've just sold my iPad mini to a family member and he is coming to pick it up later this afternoon. He wants it on iOS 6. I'm fairly certain I know how to do it but I just need to know where to download the iOS 6.1.3 file from?

I thought you could get it from apple?

EDIT: Have Apple stopped signing 6.1.3?

Google is your friend + Apple is no longer signing iOS 6.1.3 for anything other than the iPhone 3G/S, iPod Touch (4th Generation) and iPad Mini (GSM only).

Is it the first generation iPad Mini GSM (P106ap)? The signing window is still open for it.

According to the instruction on top of this page, you can only restore the ones with the GREEN ARROW. So download all you want, but can only restore the GREENS. That's what I read.

It is a bit confusing as it appears all the firmwares from 1.0 to 3.1.3 are downloadable for the iPhone2G yet when I attempted to do so I received various errors and nothing worked outside of going right back to 3.1.3

Perhaps I am missing a step or doing something wrong, but my take is many of those green checkmarked firmwares are not usable.

What are the error numbers you're getting?

    Mostly "20" and sometimes 1600.

I also tried to restore an iPhone 3 with 3.1.3 firmware and it wouldn't take.

Error 20 might be fixed by entering DFU mode before restoring.

Error 1600 is basically a custom firmware error. The device needs a pwned DFU mode in order to work. Also, I think it has something to do with the new iTunes (which broke custom firmware restores).

I'll test downgrading my 3G to OS 3 and 2 today with iTunes 11.1 and share the results.

Upon further investigation, you're totally right!
The new iTunes makes it now problematic.
