How do I keep my game save progress?

For example Angry birds, say I'm half way through and want to restore my phone and format my Mac.

How do I go about keeping my progress? If I backup the app on a USB stick will it keep the save or not?

Have to??? You can restore from a backup. If you choose not to do that, then yes, you'll lose your saves.

I'm not following. If I backup my phone then format my Mac won't my backup be lost? Or is there a way to backup my backup if that makes sense haha!
