I just tried to logout and shutdown my laptop....but apparently it doesn't let me. I can log out...I can sleep...I can shutdown....but it won't do both at the same time.

OTOH, the pc laptop I just got automatically logs me out when it shuts down/sleeps. Hilarious

Thanks

If you mean that you would like to be logged out when you boot back into the machine, go to preferences-->accounts and on the left, click "login options" and set "automatic login" to "disabled". I only have one user on my main machine, but it doesn't boot directly to the user, it boots to the login screen even though there is only one option...

i. Go to the Accounts pane of System Preferences.
ii. Click 'Login Options' below the user list.
iii. Make sure 'Automatic Login' is set to 'Off'

Oh well, just beaten... :(

Thanks guys :)

yeah, I'm the only one that uses the computer so I've never logged out, except this time I'm going on a trip and leaving it home and my paranoid self wants to log out while I'm away. ;)

I looked in mac help under 'log out' but didn't see anything there and I'm in a rush so i asked here. thanks
