How do I make a .dmg file?

Mac has a built in zip and Toast can make a toast file... but how do I make a .dmg file?

use Disk Utility. either click on "New Image" in the toolbar just to make a normal disk image or choose "File -> New -> Disk Image from Folder…" to make a compressed disk image.

Disk Utility can make a new Image. You can make it directly from a folder, or make a sparse Image and fill it with whatever you want, treating it like any disc.
