    Hi -
This is my first post here! I'm learning Flash right now and I have an assignment "test" from a prospective client. They sent me a flat jpeg mockup of the main page of their site. They want it turned into a Flash file - the buttons to be made interactive and the background made animated.

The question: Where do I start with this? Do I just slice up the jpeg and bring it into Flash and then manipulate the areas that need to be interactive?
I just want to make sure that there's not an easier way to do this before I get into it.

    Help please please please!

    Thank you!!

You could, it depends what's in the jpg. Flash works best with vector images. If your design can be recreated in Illustrator and then exported for Flash then you will have smoother animation and a smaller overall file size. Flash also has some basic drawing tools, so if the design is simple perhaps it could be recreated right in Flash. I would advise against using bitmap images in Flash, though, unless it's photos or something else that cannot be recreated in Illustrator.

Personally, I think I would just use the screenshot as a guide for constructing your demo.
Can you post the screenshot here?

Ok, that's what I was thinking would be the best (or only?) way. There's quite a lot of stuff on the mockup but I guess I'll see what I can do. I thought I might be missing some other way to do it that I wasn't aware of yet since I'm just starting out. Thanks!

    Hey Stampeyhead or Snickelfritz,
Think I could email the screenshot privately to either one of you and you could tell me the easiest way? I think if the guy who sent it to me saw it on the web already he might not be too thrilled. :)
