It seems as if my iPod Shuffle is only shown on the desktop while it's updating and then it immediately disappears from it. Is there any way to make the Shuffle stay on my desktop for as long as I have it plugged it to my USB port? Thanks.
have you set the preferences (from itunes) so that some of the shuffle's space is set aside for data? if so, it should remain on the desktop. in fact, i'm surprised it doesn't require you to eject it anyways... hmm

The only real purpose of doing this woulud be to use it as a hard drive. But iPod shuffles are so tiny, do you really want to use it as one?
If so, plug in your iPod. When iTunes comes up and is done updating, select it in your source list, then g to the iTunes menu and select "preferences", click on iPod, and enable disk use at the bottom.
EDIT: This is me just assuming that shuffles work the same as all other iPods.
