I see no "restore from backup" feature anywhere. Where is it? My i4s wants to sync every single app I've ever downloaded over the past 4 years...I don't want to manually setup my 4s to mirror my 4; I'd rather use a backup.
I couldn't figure out how to do this either. I hooked up my new 4S to iTunes today and it stuck about a gazillion apps that I do not want onto my phone. I couldn't figure out a way to do it so I'm now in the process of restoring my iPhone from a backup.
I either always get duplicate contacts, randomly erased crap off my phone, or stuck with every app I've ever bought.
iTunes is so annoying in this regard. It has never ceased to amaze me why iTunes can't just be intuitive in being EASILY able to sync/transfer exactly what you want and only what you want. I guess I must be a moron though because the masses never seem to have trouble with it.
Right now I only want my old contacts back on my phone and don't really care to transfer over all my new pictures and crap but can't figure out how to get all my old contacts without restoring the whole thing to a previous backup.![]()
Restore the phone with iTunes, when starting up (after asking about location services and others) it offers to start from scratch, start from backups on iCloud, or start from backups on iTunes. Select iTunes, plug in your phone, select back up, and done.

Did you transfer your contacts into iCloud? If so, all you gotta do is sign in with your iCloud account.
It said I didn't have enough room in iCloud to backup my i4. Where are the local copies stored?
Why do you need to find them?
Click 'Restore' in iTunes and wait for it to ask you which backup you want to use. It will show you a list. You don't need to find them yourself.
