How do i properly restore my computer

Hello internet. I have had a mac for almost a year now and i think its time i wipe it clean. I was wondering how to properly restore my computer safely and securely.

OS X is not windows. You don't need to wipe it clean after whatever time. I ran off the Tiger factory install for 2 years until I upgraded to Leopard.
