But... I don't want to delete the entire Google app, I just want to stop that live activity from appearing at the top.
Yes you need to go into the individual app. I had ESPN on and kept getting scores of games I hadn't watched yet (thus ruining the point of watching it). I'm 90% sure I went into the ESPN app and disabled it from there.I don't use that app but in the app settings there isn't an option to turn off live activities?
Thank you, I'll try that next time. The live event should show on the lock screen or if you pull down from the top it will show with any notifications as well. If you want rid of it just slide across it to delete it like you would any notification that was showing.
Exactly!I had ESPN on and kept getting scores of games I hadn't watched yet (thus ruining the point of watching it).
I didn't see a way to do this in Google app settings or pref.Yes you need to go into the individual app.
It’s called “Live Activities”, but it doesn’t seem to show in Settings’ search.Searching iOS Settings for "Live" or "Event" didn't yield any hits. That surprised me.
Settings is using other names for this I guess.

On the Lock Screen, you can swipe left on the live activity to stop getting updates for it. It may pop up again during the next game though. This method is useful when you don't want updates for that specific game, but also don't want to turn it off altogether and miss other games. (At least that's how it works with Apple's Sports app. Don't know if it works that way for all apps.)Workaround: Deleting the Google app worked.
I tried long-smashing on the live event picture to get an option to delete. Didn’t happen.
Thank you !Settings > Apps > Google > Live Activities
