How do i reset my volume key?

I am new to Mac and did something so now when I use my volume up/down/mute it goes to other functions. down- minimizes my screen. up- goes to my dashboard. I'd like to reset so that they go back to the original volume function. Thanks.

In system prefs, uncheck the bottom box.

Making sure the box is checked first right? 😛. I use f1/f2 for spotlight f3-f7 for spaces/expose. So easy!! 🙂
