iPod How do I stop auto download???

How do i stop my Ipod from downloading everything new, each time I plug it in?? I plug the ipod into my mac and all the new stuff just updates.
 
In iTunes->Preferences->iPod there are a bunch of checkboxes that dictate what happens when you connect your ipod.
