I use my iPad mostly when I'm lounging around, but it tends to slide down when I put it on my legs/knees/cushion etc.
I know it's obvious that it would do but I'm after a grippy little solution, nothing bulky as I don't like these thick cases, mine's nude.

Anyone know of anything I could try?

You can get really thin back covers that don't add much bulk at all. A smart cover when folded behind the iPad should work as well.

What would these back covers be made of? Silicone?

Depends, just spend some time on Amazon.

I think the ZAGG skins have a bit of a tacky texture. I wasn't a fan of it on my iPhone 4 but it might be what you are looking for.
