How do I sync my iPhone Contacts to iTunes

So if i sync my contacts from my iphone 4 to iCloud I can just retrieve them from the iCloud on my iphone 5 then?
Yes .. There are several options to synch to iCloud including contacts, calendar, reminders, bookmarks ... Etc
Thanks. I have my contacts now on the iphone 5. Shouldn't my text messages automatically carry over? or can i some how sync those over?

You back up your phone via Itunes, PC or MAC.
You get new phone.
You restore via Itunes to new phone. Contacts, tunes, apps, everything goes to new phone.
Done.
You back up your phone via Itunes, PC or MAC.

You can also sync all of that through iCloud , I do like to keep a back up on my home computer as well.
When I used Restore from Backup via iTunes for my new iPhone 5, everything came over intact, including registrations, settings, messages, photos, contacts: everything.
It worked perfectly for my two previous iPhone upgrades. Doing it in pieces is too much work with too much margin for error, IMHO.
