I assume that Imazing would work, but I want a simple free solution for this.
I also don't want to back up my whole iPhone to my mac, because than I don't have access to the photos and videos.

Any idea's please?
I've been breaking my head around this for a long time

You can use a simple and free solution like iCloud. Here's what you need to do:

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Photos and turn on 'iCloud Photos'.
  2. On your Mac, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > iCloud. Click 'Options' next to Photos and select 'iCloud Photos'.
This will sync your photos and videos across all your Apple devices. Remember, the free tier of iCloud provides 5GB of storage, so you might need to manage your storage accordingly.

That is wrong. If you sync/backup your iPhone, your photos and videos(taken with the iPhone camera) will be imported into Photos. They will also remain one the Camera Roll on your iPhone, so you will will access on your iPhone and your Mac.

Your WhatsApp media should appear in your Camera Roll.

i can be wrong but I think there is an option to backup to a GMAIL account in whatsapp. After that is done you can download the .zip or whatever file from your email account to your mac

Thanks!

But your option will help me sync my photos and videos that are in my galley, not in my WhatsApp, onto my iCloud account....

A couple of thoughts:

Install WhatsApp on your Mac, so everything that is on WhatsApp on your phone will be available on your Mac?

On your phone save your WhatsApp photos/videos and let them sync in Photos to your Mac via iCloud?
