A few weeks ago, the Messenger app started making a "blup" sound every time I get a message. I don't want it to make sounds and I have turned sounds for notifications off years ago. It's still turned off. Why is it now suddenly making a sound despite sounds being turned off?

I have the exact same problem. I have sound turn off for messenger, but I still get the "blup" sound every time someone reads my message. I even get it with the screen off

That is weird. Maybe try toggling it on and off or something?

I tried doing that, but maybe I will reinstall the app, and maybe I'll eventually even try installing iOS 12 after some time, seems like it's a bug.
