How do I unlock my iPhone 3g (Running the latest Firmware)

Just bought an iPhone off craigslist and it was unlocked running firmware 3.3 or something odd. Everything was laggy so I decided to restore & update yesterday. Now I am stuck and It tells me I need a sim card to activate the device.

Can some one please tell me how I can get out of that, I need to Unlock the iPhone to get it working on T-Mobile and I want to get out of the Emergency Call screen!

Also, why does it say on most of the video If I unlock the iPhone it will not EVER be able to downgrade the firmware or upgrade the firmware via iTunes I would have to use Pwnage tool?

Click on Start Here and select Pwnage for the firmware version that fits your case.
No video there but it is almost like one.
