I already update to 10.5.6 using the updater, but since the update, my machine cannot sleep on idle anymore.

So, I would like to try the combo update.

How should I proceed?

Well if you already downloaded 10.5.6, the combo update won't help you any. The combo update that apple just released is 10.5.4, 10.5.5, and 10.5.6 all bundled into one, and since you already have 10.5.6 installed, this is not going to help you.

Download it from here:

http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10-5-6_Combo_Update

Then install it. It'll install just like any other update.

Also, if you are having sleep problems etc, try resetting your SMC and PRAM.

The combo update can fix problem that the straight 10.5.6 installer maybe caused. It is the first call when an update causes problems.

+1 for that! That is why I don't even run the straight updaters anymore- I just immediately download the combo and run it instead each time. ;)

In my experience, combo updates can be more reliable & I resort to them if Software Update causes problems, which as I recall happened to me once, then the combo installer fixed it (a permissions issue).

For 10.5.6, Software Update did not cause any problems for me & sleep works fine.
