I don't like watching films as a letterbox it is my personal preference. I actually play the films on my 16:9 TV by HDMI cable but the film still comes up in letterbox format on my 16:9 TV. Why is that?

Because like mentioned earlier in this thread there are hardly any movies that are even recorded in 16:9, but usually 1.85:1 or 2.35:1.

It amazes me that there are still individuals that don't understand why the black bars are there. It's not for fun. Its because the movie was shot and created with an aspect ratio that isn't always the same the screen it is being played on.

If you want to get the entire picture onto that screen, it results in black bars. The alternative is to zoom in (losing the sides of your movie completely) or stretch the picture top and bottom which just distorts it what you are looking at.

Am I crazy for thinking people are crazy for wanting to do this?

Just to be clear, this isn't an attack on the OP, its just my mind being boggled.
[doublepost=1470634080][/doublepost]Then original question was " why does it show the black bars all of a sudden, they could watch movies befor full but suddenly IT NO LONGER fits...meaning it used to but does not anymore it won't allow them.... So what's the difference now? Why could you watch full before and now the black bars...which by the way cuts off quite a bit of the original picture on my Netflix, Iv seen These movies in full and there wasn't any cut offs....no way the tops of ther heads and bottoms of their faces are purposely cut off So why! It's so enoying and distracting

Because you are watching things filmed in widescreen for cinema.

i'm glad that mac still offering screens with 16:10 ratio.

Me too. The extra vertical screen real estate is great for web browsing and productivity. Some have similar complaints about the iPad's 3:2 ratio, which I also think is perfect for the device. I'll take the black bars.

That said, it might be nice if Netflix and other streaming services offered a zoom feature on the desktop player like they do on iOS. I never use it because you lose part of the image and the quality degrades, but others might like it.

- I'm sorry, but that made no sense at all.

I hope Netflix never offers an option to change the vision and work of the artists who created the content. It's disrespectful.

The black bars in a movie is due to the aspect ratio it was filmed in (2.40 to 1, 2.35 to 1). The only time a movie fills a 16 X 9 screen is when it is filmed in a 1.80 to 1 or 1.78 to 1 aspect ratio.

Netflix to arrogant with their custom player they should look into how native Apple player works.
1. Allows user to enlarge video.
2. Allows viewing videos full screen portrait (iOS)

I wrote letters to them.
