The "30x for one month" calculation isn't really correct. One of the advanced features of TM and similar systems is the ability to only store actual changes to files (i know Shadow Copy on Vista does this and I'm pretty sure they said TM would too, except if it had something to do with ZFS).
That means that if you have a large project with a large number of files, you probably won't change all of them every day, so only some will get backed up on a daily basis. Also if you have a huge file (couple hundred megs) and only a little bit of it gets changed, you don't need to store a whole copy, just remember which parts changed.
And lastly, although it depends on the type of the work you're doing (if you edit videos, it's not true), I think we won't be needing much capacity. Most home users will probably be backing up their documents, system settings, emails, etc. All of that doesn't really take up much space.
Things like pr0n/mp3s/movies don't need to be backed up with TM. To be honest, I really can't think of a situation where I would go: "Damn, I sure wish this "Where.The.Boys.Arent.39.XViD-PORNOLATiON" folder could be restored back to how it was 16 days ago."
