I’m trying to convince a friend to purchase a MacBook Air but they like to wear jewelry (rings, bracelets, watches, etc) and they’re concerned the aluminum MacBooks won’t hold up like a plastic body laptop would. Can anyone confirm how well the MacBook bodies hold up overall? I’d like to try and convince them to move to the Apple side if possible 👏

Then you are stuck with Apple's aluminum, unless s/he wants to deal with some kind of hackintosh notebook.

I think they are okay with it, they just want to know if it holds up well with people that wear jewelry or it gets scratched and tore up

What? Aluminium is harder (i.e. more resistant to surface scratching) than polycarbonate plastic.

You can look up the hardness index of materials. But if you'd prefer anecdote, I have a steel watch strap that scrapes against my MBP, and there's absolutely no damage or evidence of abrasion.

Maybe some light surface marks on the palmrests from bracelets etc - but she could always apply a skin in that area as a form of protection.......

I wear a ring and bracelets daily and have not seen any scratches or damage on any of the MacBooks I have used. Haven't had one any color other than silver, so maybe that's why but they don't seem to be bothered with bracelet or rings.

Perhaps a vinyl cover would reduce concerns? They come in pieces that protect the inside where the wrist rests as well as the outside.

Buy the silver version of whatever line (Neo/Air/Pro), and they should be just fine.
Just so you know, if they wear the Apple Watch Ultra alpine loops, those bands can scratch. A friend who wears the ultra that wears the alpine loop on triathlons told me that. That’s the only thing I’m worried about with darker-colored MacBook Pros and Macs.

I wear a lot of sterling silver and even some white gold/gold rings, including a white gold band that’s diamond-cut, and various bracelets. I have the Space Black, and I haven’t had any scratches on my MBP!
