Having to pay for food.

Having to pay for Car insurance / plates.

Having to pay for a cell phone.

Other expenses.

Student Loan covered everything for me. But I don't drive and had a cheap phone, so my loan was tiny and paid off really soon after graduation.

It's surprising the amount of stuff you don't need.

I run my own company, that sells Lenovo products to small business. But truth is, I don't make very much doing it. But it's helping me make connections into the corporate world. I make must of my money with "Human Directionals". The guys in the road spinning a sign trying to get your attention. Also small well thought out investments in the stock market. Such as 1,6xx shares in Ford I bought two years ago and sold off recently...

But I am starting my first year in school this month, but I will still be taking the same approach.

It's called a job.

Others choose to get a credit card and go further into debt.

Or further, mommy and daddy give them cash money to live on.

They don't all live in the United States ;) (Okay I might get hit for that, but it's true.)

Not having a car really helps, you save on gas, repairs and insurance.

Yes...

Monthly
$106 Full Coverage/Renters/$100k Life Insurance Policy
$600 Gas
$150 Random Parts (Classic car)

Vs.

$50-70 Bus Pass, it's very tempting.

Government paid for my tuition fees (everyone gets free tuition in Scotland, regardless of income)

Government paid for the petrol to get me to and from university each day.

Doing it right now.

Part time job when money is tight.
Student loans to help with living costs.
Got some money from my parents.
No expensive phone contract, just a cheap texting plan and wifi.

Lots of places also do student discounts if you have a student card, which adds up to quite a bit of money saved.
