$1299 is a damn good prcie for a 20" display. Especially one that is as nice as Apple's.

You shouldn't have to pay for applecare for an already overpriced LCD... oh well.

Do you know if they use the same screen control hardware?

Just because a monitor looks the same and has the same lcd/crt doesn't make it the same as the next guy. The control hardware is really what you pay for on 99% of all displays as the crts and lcds are made by just a few manufacturers it's the actual hardware that controls those is why you buy from one company or the other. It makes all the difference in the world on the quality of the display.
Yes, the Dell 1900FP and 1901FP have the exact same controller and hardware (menu system) as the Samsungs. Really, if you looked at the two side by side, the only physical difference is the Dell logo instead of Samsung. They even have the same silver bezel with a black stand.

You know this for a fact? Just because they appear exactly the same doesn't make them the same. It wouldn't be unusual for the manufacturer to sell the lcd panel in housing and let the 3rd party manufacturer install there hardware.

In any case I just checked at PriceGrabber.com and you can get the Samsung for $100 cheaper then the Dell. It's not that I don't like PCs it's that I don't like the junk that Dell usually sells. I'm not saying that these Dell monitors are bad I'm just saying I've known a lot of people with bad experiences with there computers.

I find this a veryinteresting thread.

I am always struggling to figure out.

Are Apple monitors any better than Samsung or the new Ultrasharps?
Is it HYPE that always makes me think that APPLE is better?
Is there a Color calibration issue that makes the cinema displays better?

Is it hype or real.
Any kind of color calibration on an LCD is a blindmans gamble!
Its hard enough on a freakin CRT! 🙂P

I do think that all the panels mostly come from the same source.
Of course there are controller issues and other hardware issues.

Makes me wish i had both of them to see for myself!

All that said. I just ordered a Dell ultrasharp 2005FPW for $679.

Soon I will at least have one to test. Now if I can find a friend with a Cinema display, I can finally lay this to rest!

Does anyone have an info on the Ultrasharp 2005 widescreen?
