How do u use ext Hd as boot for mac mini?

    I have a 7200 ext he I can use. Can u set it up as the main and use the stock int hd for back up via time machine?

    No matter what, the external is going to be slower, so why would you want to use an external as the system drive?

    I read in macworld an ext fw800 hd will improve performance, just wanted to confirm this. (as a boot drive). Doesn't this make the ext hd the main?

    Not over the SATA internal drive.

    Not better than the stock 5400rpm? I finding more support that booting with a fw800 will be much better

    No.

    The internal SATA drive is 3 Gbps (or 1.5 Gbps if it older) while FW800 is 800 Mbps, drive RPM is pretty much irrelevant with that much difference.
