Hi all,

I'm on the Apple Upgrade programme and am eligible to upgrade so I'm going to upgrade from my 7+ to an 8+ when they're available.

Can anybody help me out with the best way to do this on Friday at 8am? What are the steps in the Apple Store App? (I understand that this may be the best place to do it?)

Any help much appreciated.

Install the Apple Store app on your phone then launch and login and go to the account tab. Click iPhone Upgrade Program in that tab and follow the prompts to pick your new iPhone 8 and prequalify for the upgrade program. Once that is done it will add a link to the homepage of the app that allows you to complete the order in Sept. 15.

You can't do this for the iPhone X yet though... just the 8.

Did you receive that email from Apple earlier about the pre-approval? I got one that I saw this morning. It told me to use the Apple Store app and It let me pick the phone and carrier that I want. Then it has you update any personal information that might have changed and approves your upgrade with Citizens One bank. After that, it tells you to come back at 12:01pst to finish that pre-order. Looks pretty easy, so far. :) Famous last words.

I did. I thought it was odd you have to use the iOS app for this and it won't let you do it from a Mac on the Apple web site.

Maybe it's because I'm in the UK but mine is different?

I get to a "Good news. You're eligible to apply for a new iPhone. From 15.09 at 8:01am, you'll be able to make a reservation online to upgrade at the Apple Store"

Cant go any further than that :-(

Are you tapping here in the account tab of the app?

Must be a UK thing. I noticed in the US on the upgrade program they now send you a box to mail in your old phone and they ship your new phone. From the wording on your screenshot there is looks like in the UK you still have to go to the store to do the swap, so maybe that is the problem.

Ah ok thanks, shame as your way sounds like a more guaranteed way of getting a phone!

I'll just have to try my luck on Friday morning, hopefully as I'm going for an 8+ I'll be in luck as more people may be waiting for the X!

So how does this work for young adult/teenage students on their Parents wireless accounts. Is there a way I can do it for their phones? They all have their own Apple IDs (of course).
My 17 yr old is current on the Apple Upgrade program for about 18 mos so is eligible. The other two are no longer on a payment program.

I think in the store app you would need to be logged in with the correct AppleID to do this, but I have no idea if they will let a minor sign up for the upgrade program since it in effect a legal contract. Maybe call Apple and ask?

I see there's a link in small print to 'check another phone'. Once I know what phone the kids are getting, I'll try that.

Now I just need to figure out which phone is the the other one I'm making payments on.

If you don't already have phones in the IUP, you can't 'do' anything until 12:01 AM PT Friday. All you can do now is get preapproved for 'Upgrading' phones that are already in the program. The semantics are always confusing, but the preapprovals are for people who are already in the IUP and want to make things go smoothly Friday AM (US time :D ).

Adding a new phone/line to the IUP from scratch can't be done until preorders open at 12:01 AM PT. See the FAQ list in the Apple Store App under IUP, it's currently the last question.

I'm still on my mom's wireless account and I was able to do it on my phone. Just sign in with the correct Apple ID. At some point it'll ask for carrier information (including the last 4 digits of the SSN of the account holder) but mine autocompleted and just filled in my info from last year. Just be aware though, it does ask for the users SSN and says they need to be 18 or older to be in the program

In your opinion how quickly/smoothly would it go for somebody not already in the IUP to try to do it from scratch at 12:01 AM PT? Do you think it would be feasible to still make the 9/22 shipment? I've done the 5 and 6+ pre-orders before but never using the IUP. Going for the 8+ 256GB

If there are no issues and you have your billing info (credit card) and address (billing address) all in the Apple Store app, and then you enter your wireless carrier info (phone number (userID), password, PIN if any), and ALL THAT lol works (no overload on carrier side...) (and you probably need your SSN, since a new account on Citizen One's side...), it should be fine.

I am not being sarcastic, I will be doing the exact same thing to get an 8 for another line on my account. There doesn't seem to be any other path or anything else we can do in advance!

Originally (two years ago), all we did was reserve the phone and all the IUP steps were done in store. But now we are trying to do the whole thing and get the phone shipped to us. Woohoo! But there may be some pain on the front end, since we are trying to do the credit setup/check and new loan all at the same time at 'midnight' (PT).

This will be interesting...

People doing a straight 'upgrade' to a current IUP account should have it much simpler, if not totally pain-free!

Thanks! Yes, will be very interesting. I have a feeling some overload of the carrier side and apple store will happen but maybe with the X being staggered it won't be "quite so bad". (probably still will be)
