Is it really called the "nipple"? All this time, I kept calling it the scroll ball. The "Geniuses" must think I am an idiot.

I clean MightyRodents by dropping them in the trash and replacing them with a conventional 2 button wheel mouse.

Funny, I use the exact same "cleaning" method. :)

Except, I usually just keep the blasted thing stowed away in the box in case I decide to sell the machine later.

The Mighty Mouse will remain a crappy mouse to me as long as Apple keeps making them in that glossy white that slips from your hands after hours of use. If that aspect was fixed, it would still only a so-so mouse. I guess I'm a sucker for having two mechanical buttons...

But it doesn't end here! Apple has made worse mouse in the past. Remember the hockey puck mouse from the legacy iMac era? I still think to this day that it holds the title of "Most Poorly Designed Mouse."

I really shouldn't be picking on just Apple, though. PCs are usually packaged with pretty shoddy mice as well. There's a reason why Microsoft and Logitech still have strong holdings in the input device business...

Off the topic and old

I know this is a really old message, but is the MM that bad? I never unpacked mine that came with my iMac, because I already had a MS mouse that I like.

Wow, a thread I've posted on before. I suppose it was bound to happen eventually :D

It honestly isn't that bad. The MM isn't for everyone, but I do like mine. The 'nipple' provides excellent control under OS X for scrolling in all directions, the right-click works well and the squeeze-the-sides-for-show-all-windows and push-the-nipple-for-dashboard config works very, very well for me.

I do, however, believe that Apple could produce a much more elegant input device if they tried. The MM is just another mouse.
