Hey guys,

(3) Philberttheduck said it right, I'm not talking about getting my mom to buy me a com, I'm asking for advice on convincing people about the Mac advantage.

Seeing is believing. I find that people get really impressed by the Mac when they see it in action, even if it´s just using iMovie or iPhoto. Throw in a bit of Exposé and Dashboard and you should have them on a roll. Then you give them a trial account, just to flash the cube transition when quick switching users. That´s when they kick you off the chair and start play with the Mac themselves. I bet your mum will buy one in the end – and she won´t let you touch it.

Good luck!

B) Annoy her until she buys it (ie when something goes wrong on your Fujitsu say that wouldnt happen on a Mac-even if it would).

This might work, although, don't expect it to happen right away...took my mom nearly a year and some to get my iBook...but it worked :p

Secondly, just because you have enough money doesn't mean your parents will automatically be ok with your purchase. Parents could see it as "defying an adult's authority" or an attempt to ruin the status quo; say the parents say "no" to purchasing a mac and then you go out and buy it on your own. it's like stickin the middle finger right in their face when you come home with a brand new mac, not to mention the times you'd use it over and over again. pretty soon they'll be like "pay up your share of the rent if you think you're all high and mighty"

I love this paragraph...so true...

What i don't get is how all the people in these threads are always saying "get a job, it's easier. parents won't get in the way then". Bull. Getting a job is NOT easy for a teenager because at minimum wage and max work hours of 30 a week

Well, i am a teenager, i am in my hols and i work 40 hours a week, and above minimum wage...and it took hardly any time to find it, i work for bout 6 weeks and i will have more than enough to buy a new macbook with all upgrades...so...depends...

just waiting to c if they bring out any more upgrades ;) , btw- i havent been paying attention, when is WWC and how soon after will they be likely to bring out any upgrades, i need my new notebook for begining sept/middle sept...

ta. batman.

Here is what I would do:
1. Get a Job

2. Get Outstanding grades

3. Do what you are told

4. Create a presentation on the mac you want.- List spefications, When + how you would use it.

5. Possibly split the costs with your parents...or donate some money

Agreed. There are more than enough opportunies for a teenager to find a job. I got my job at Burger King right after turning 15. I've worked there ever since, and am now 17 and a half. I make $7.50 an hour, and work 25-30hrs/week during school, and about 35hrs/week in the summer. I keep near a 4.0GPA, am the editor-in-chief of the school paper, pay for my car, insurance, gas, etc. Any teen can find a job, excuses just mean you're lazy.

i thought the macbook is the cheapest laptop out there right now considering what you get for its price.

get a job and buy one?

oh and parents who tell their children they cant buy something they are legally entitled to have suck.

unless it's something stupid like cigarettes, guns, knives ect.

i make all my own purchasing decisions, just this morning a package containing goods i bought arrived and my dad took it up to my room not knowing what was in it and did not ask any questions because he trusts me and respects my privacy.

Mac Mini

Or how about a mini? You could tell them you can still use the keyboard, monitor, printer and mouse with the new computer? Don't they start for less than $600? Maybe you can offer to pay them back 50 bucks a month? Hell I don't know what your allowance is, but back in the 80s I got $125 a week.

I am convincing my dad to get us a Mac Pro when they come out, and it is going well. The only reason is that we went to the AppleCentre to see the new iMac (I'm getting one for free) and just really liked them. Mind you our normal PC is going bonkers. The apple ads better be true 'cus I have had enough crashes.

I got lucky and saw my video production teacher at compusa the day I was gonna pick up my VAIO cuz my mom didnt want me to get a mac she was skeptical of getting me a new laptop cuz i wrecked my thoshiba(it sucked) . But my teacher convinced my mom to get it for me and she bought me a White MacBook 2.0 GHZ I didnt even have to pay for it.:D

Tell them that you will do chores and pay for half after they buy it. I think you'll find more value in it if you at least pay a portion of it.
Then again, if your parent's need that much convincing then it's probably better to just save and buy it yourself.

Or, better yet, learn the discipline of saving money instead of paying credit bills.

Save the money first, then buy it. Don't learn your way into debt so eagerly.

Ahhh..I am 13 and i just got a new 2GHz Black macbook.

I had your trouble's. Yet here i am responding to your thread on my new macbook.

The only reason my parents were sketchy about me getting it was the price. BUT lucky i had money and my parents made a Half-Half deal. Plus i have a relative thats in collage and that does not need a mac notebook for a year so i used her educations discount. I paid for half my macbook and my parents paid for the rest which meant i paid $750. I sejust raising money and not making your parents buy it for you. It feels much better knowing you have a laptop because of YOURSELF not your parents..Well for me i got Half the feeling:p .
if you get it i hope you enjoy it. And if you dont care about the color just go for the white 2GHz macbook. And if you dont need the extra speed and superdrive go for the 1.83GHz with Combodrive.

The reason i got the black was because i needed a fast Laptop that i could burn DVD's on. And im a kiss-up to apple and HAD to buy the black 'cuz it look so Nice.

Enjoy your future macbook

Same here, but I have a fully loaded MacBook Pro 17". It's awesome, but I paid for it in a month's allowance, no help from Mother and Father! But it's worth it, and I burn CDs and DVDs, not to mention I love the iSight, so OP, when you get your Mac, it'll be worth the wait. Just trust the teens.

You paid for it with one month's allowance and you say it's not because of mother or father's help? What allowance do you get and who gives it?

Are you serious? You bought a loaded 17" MacBook Pro at 13 with one months allowance? You seem like you have a lot of stuff in your signature. Are you going to be getting any other expensive machines anytime soon?

LMMFAO! ROFFLESAUCE!!! LOL!

You bought a loaded MBP 17" in a month's allowance?! But you had no help from your parents?! WTF?!

I've never got an allowance. I've always been told I should keep my room clean, and help with chores because I'm part of the family, not for monetary gain. But to think you got $3000+ in a month is just sickening. Ugh...

Chores? This guy makes money part-time doing multimedia design - of course you need a Mac. Tell your parents that everyone in the industry uses a Mac. Make it sound professional - and then tell them that you'll make enough money using the Mac to pay them $100/month over the next several months. If you'r ein the multimedia industry you have to get them to realize this isn't a toy, this is your profession, and that you can pay your way through school with this thing. (Because you can.)
