How do you delete your avatar?

I've noticed that some people simply have no avatar, but I can't see how that is achieved. All I can do is remove a custom avatar, leaving the generic silhouette icon that I currently have. But some people have absolutely nothing. How can I get nothing too?

Sorry. The problem seemed to solve itself even as I was writing about it.

I am an idiot. That should be my avatar.

I think the confusion comes from that if you don't have an avatar, it's blank in the thread view but has a placeholder on your profile and other areas

On a related note, thought I would ask here given the discussion -- any potential plans to bring the (user selectable) option of being able to hide avatars back to the new forums?
