CarPlay How Do You Enter Numbers While Driving (Press 1 For...Press 2 For...)?

As the title goes, when we're driving and are trying to speak to any corporate customer service department, school attendance office, airline reservation desk, or doctors office, you occasionally have to hit "1" to speak to blah-blah and "2" to speak to so-and-so and when I attempt to do this in CarPlay in my BMW's it tells me I shouldn't.

Is there a way to do this?

This doesn't happen to me.

I press the number on the screen. I will try it again today to see if it still works.
