How do you get the Gmail app to DELETE emails when swiping?

I only get the option to archive... which I'm not entirely sure what that even does.

Is there a way to switch this so that it will DELETE an e-mail when I swipe?

you have to go into mail in settings and change it from archive to delete.

Yeah I think this only works for the default Mail app though... not Gmail app

Archive just marks it as read and you can still get back to the message under All Mail
