I think you meant command-3, not option-3...
Option-3 on a Mac will ALWAYS produce a character, never a command.

Kyle? was responding to my query about using the Apple key + 3. (I jokingly wondered if it would produce the abbreviation for pound, the measurement of weight.) I think you just read the top part of the post. ;)

actually, it's not pound OR hash. the technical, scientific name for # is "tic-tac-toe symbol". :D

I liked special character finding a lot more in the days of Key Caps (they axed this in Panther). Simple app, showed a graphical representation of your keyboard, and the letters would change to their corresponding symbols if you held down option, shift, or option-shift. I did not actually realize that a special symbol locator was still in Panther, just moved to the keyboard menu-- how annoying.
