Nobody I know uses AIM, it's all about MSN or at lease Skype. And if they're not into that it's always Facebook or Myspace.
I really like the idea and style of iChat, but I can't talk to myself! Do you guys seriously use it to talk to AOL screen names? How do you find uses for it?

I use it for gmail chat. most of my friends have gmail and it works fine for us. text chat and video.

you can make it work with MSN but it really needs other people with iChat to make full use if it. Bit of gimmick if you ask me.

I would get adium if i were you
if you want facebook/myspace chat.
adium has a lot of features

you can probably change the skins to make it look like an iChat
but at the same time you can't screenshare. which i don't think you can...

What's wrong with AIM screen names?

All my friends have used AIM since like 1998'ish.

Yea, same. Everyone uses AIM.

Either way, I just got my mom a macbook so video chat to talk to her and screen sharing to show her how to do stuff has been a life saver so I don't have to keep driving up to my parents house every time theres an issue.

A truer statement has never been spoken :D

I too would like to use iChat, but have no one to use it with. So I use Adium.

Yup, I use Adium too. I use iChat from time to time when Adium decides not to want to send my file transfers fast enough or I need to screen share with a Mac friend. haha.

I feel the same way. I really want to use ichat more often but it's just not really practical because everybody I know uses msn or facebook. I have not met one person that has a AIM account for other purposes other than ichat lol. Maybe it's because I live in Canada or because out generation started chatting after AOL keywords died out. Good ol' AOL keywords.

I know how you feel. Here in Canada, nobody uses AMERICA instant messenger. Most people outside of America don't seem to use America instant messenger, oddly enough.

Everyone I know is on MSN (er, WLM) so I have no use for iChat :(

It all depends on where you're from.

AIM seems to be more popular in the U.S.
Yahoo and MSN seem more popular in the U.K.
Skype is getting more popular just about everywhere, slowly.

But truthfully, I hardly use AIM anymore, in favor of Facebook Chat. If anything, I wish Apple would implement Facebook Chat to work. I know that I can do this using Adium, but I can't video chat with Adium. Or screen share with Adium. So... we all lose.

I use iChat simply because i seriously cant get adium to change the text, everyime i try and change the text color, it changes it right back after sending 1 text, and the worst part about it is that it keeps going back to black text in a black box... black on black.... no matter what i do i cant change the text colors for more than one message. Ive tried getting rid of adium and re-installing it but no luck, help anyone? :(

Instead of changing the font in your chat windows, go to the Preferences pane (Cmd-,), click on the Messages tab, and click on Set Font. That should work, if not then you have a theme going on that overrides your font for it's own.

Do you guys know how to combine multiple accounts into a single ichat buddy list? I use it for gmail and aim chat but right now it shows up as two separate accounts in two separate buddy lists.

I tried that many many times, and still it doesn't work... and when i delete adium and re-install it, it remembers my preferences and keeps that black on black font... what can I do? please help !!!!
