How do you hold and/or use the iPad?

I ordered the 3G 64GB version of the iPad when Apple started taking orders but was curious about how the iPad felt in my hands so I went to the Apple store today.
Used it there for about 15 minutes and felt that it was kind of awkard to use. Maybe it's cause I am not use to it or maybe cause I was standing the entire time but I think I prefer a laptop that you can place on a desk or on your lap for typing and stuff.

Is it just me or do others have similar opinions?
If not, how do you use your iPad comfortably?

I found it a little awkward at first, but by the second day it felt natural. I guess I hold it different ways--one handed, two handed, from the side, from the bottom, propped against my bent legs, resting on my palm, on the arm of the couch, flat on the bed, sitting in a cheap picture-frame stand, etc.--depending on what I'm doing and where I am. I don't really think about it anymore; I just "do."

Using it for the first time is like everything else. You just have to get used to it.

Although it's just 1.5 lbs, I really feel like it would be easier to hold if it was a tad bit lighter. After holding the iPad in the crook of my palm for a while, my hand does cramp up a little. This is TOTALLY being nit-picky, but that's pretty much what I have to say about that.

It certainly is a bit awkward for me to use even after the first week. I usually switch between putting the iPad on my lap and holding it. I find that watching tv shows in bed is not as comfortable as I though it'd be, but it's way better than using a laptop. It's lighter and there's no heat.

I found that my physical comfort level in holding the iPad increased significantly once I started using an Apple Case. It became less "slippery" and in landscape mode has the incline.

The case made the difference for me. FWIW, I LOVE my iPad.

With Apple case on in the propped up position, locked in landscape mode. :)

I keep mine in the apple case.

Sometimes it's standing up like a picture frame.

Other times it's lying on the table at an angle for me to type on.

Other times I hold it in the air or put it on my lap.

Man I wish I could find that Apple case...or any good case with a stand.

I use the official Apple case. I typically fold the front cover to the back and grip the iPad by sliding my left hand index finger in the opening between the device and the back cover. This allows me to hold it like a book much more easily.

I love the official case, even though it seems to be disliked by a great many.

I hold mine portrait mode with the apple case. It's a winning combo :p

I love the official case. My only complaint is that it precludes the use of the official dock. And I usually HATE cases. But for some reason, the iPad case by Apple complements the iPad very well.

I like to get up and personal with mine :D I hold her naked. I got a sleeve for carrying her around town and a apple case for taking her out of town.

90% of the time it is naked and in landscape mode. Either hold it, or prop up on my knees when kicked back. First day or two was awkward, but don't even think about now. Looking in store and using at home are two different things, you will figure out what is most comfortable for you pretty quick.

This was a major turn off to me when I tested out the iPad in best buy. I'm going to go back and test it out again, but it definitely felt too heavy and awkward to hold.

There is no up, there is no down. There is no right or wrong way to hold it. This is a product that fits... ME.

Locked in landscape mode almost all the time. Only time I like portrait is for typing. The landscape keyboard is too "spread out" for my stubby fingers. I wish we could have a smaller keyboard in landscape mode.
