Hey

Recently from last few days, my PC is not working properly. I have noticed that some weird mouse activity is being performed on my Mac PC recently. As I'm very worried about it as my computer got infected with a RAT recently and it died after a few days; they could no longer turn it on. Need help in a manner to get rid of this RAT infection completely from my Mac PC.

for the op, two quick things based on my own experiences:

-make sure no other input devices are plugged in and giving inadvertent input. I've occasionally noticed weird inputs only to realize a Wacom tablet, wireless mouse or bluetooth keyboard was left connected and something set on it causing the input.

-over time apple laptop batteries will sometimes swell causing pressure against the trackpad, making it harder to press and generate phantom input. if you notice the trackpad is less click-y this could also be the case and is worth checking out.

What the heck is a RAT? You mean a computer virus?

Most likely, you’ve got a swollen battery or defective trackpad that is causing random cursor movements.

Download, install, and run Malwarebytes for Mac and do a scan for viruses.

Do you have trouble clicking the touchpad. Trouble clicking (extremely stiff click or no click at all) indicates a swollen battery.

RAT = Remote Access Trojan.

Yeah, intermittent movement of the trackpad, or other strangeness can mean a swollen battery, or some other failure of the trackpad itself. That's more likely than a RAT, I think.

FYI, this thread is from 2014.

I had random and sporadic movement of the mouse pointer just the way you described on a mid 2014 13” mbp. The trackpad was bad.
