How do you make the desktop be the default "choose from" location?

Whenever I go to upload a file online, it defaults to my system folder "iMac" and I have to click on Desktop to choose files from there.

Is there a way so that whenever the dialog box opens up, it defaults to the Desktop instead?

What browser and Mac OS X version do you use?
I use Safari 5 and it remembers my last chosen location.
And if you want to get to the Desktop fast (in Finder or Open/Save dialogs) you can also press CMD+SHIFT+D.

Im using Chrome browser and OSX 10.6.
