Do you pronounce it like the number 10 or like the letter x? I'm not asking for the "correct" pronunciation, I just want to know how you actually pronounce it when you say it out loud or in your head.

It's interesting that most of the responses to the anonymous poll say the letter x while most of the public responses on the thread say the number 10 (except the one brave poster).

I understand that it's ten, but I never ever pronounce it anything other than ex.

Me too. In fairness, my exposure to it comes from the written word, not from hearing it. Although I know it's ten, I like the sound of Oh Ess Ex better.

But I DO pronounce GIF properly. Jif.

I would like to say OS "ex," but knowing that isn't correct, I'm forced to say OS "ten." OS "ex" flows better but it is just plain wrong.

At 2:05 Tim Cook calls it O S Ten. So that would be the guideline of how Apple pronounces it.

So for the people who say OS Ex -

Does that mean the upcoming superbowl is going to be:

Suoer Bowl Ex El Vee Eye Eye Eye???!!??

Well OS 9 was not OS IX, it was OS 9. OS 8 was not OS VIII, it was OS 8. So when Apple decided it would not be cool to release something called OS 10, the name OS X was not part of any previous sequence now was it?

I can't wait for Boeing to design a 7107. Maybe they should call it a 7X7.

I think that we (or at least I) prefer to pronounce OS X as OS eX because "OS eX 10.something" sound much better that OS Ten Ten Number...; It doesn't sound that weird using " OS Ten Mavericks", but I prefer eX :) .. And X is reference for UNIX basement of OS X and that's my reason why I prefer OS eX to OS Ten. ;)
