As I said in my original post, the question is not asking how to correctly pronounce OS X; neither is the question asking how Steve Jobs or Tim Cook pronounced OS X. The point of the question is to find out how ordinary Mac users pronounce the word.

How do you pronounce the X in OS X?

As I said in my original post, the question is not asking how to correctly pronounce OS X; neither is the question asking how Steve Jobs or Tim Cook pronounced OS X. The point of the question is to find out how ordinary Mac users pronounce the word.
I've always said OS Ex. My first mac experience was using 10.3 (or maybe 10.4) so i had no numerical context to base my pronunciation off of. I've always known it was really OS10 but it never sounded right to me, plus, I think it makes more sense to people, especially those that don't use macs to recognize the operating system by the way they see it spelled. And as someone else mentioned already, it makes more sense when immediately following OSX with the version number as in OSX 10.9. Although in general, I will just say "OS 10.9", which makes sense, except for the fact that it makes the name of the operating system incredible generic, as if it wasn't generic sounding enough as it is. In fact, add that to the list of reasons why I say OS Ex. - Operating System 10 is an uninspired name. Operating System X is more hip and with it like the all the cool kids say.
The correct way is Ten. Go in to Terminal and type "say Mac OS X" and it will pronounce is Oh Ess Ten
You didn't read the first post, eh? Even the topic doesn't ask what is "correct". But, this is intriguing: how would one read that topic question? There are four options, of course:
How do you pronounce the "Ex" in OS X? etc.
Same here.
You can always find the uptight fanboys when you say it "oh es ex" instead of "OS Ten". They always "correct" you.
I hope you all voted in the poll. "Ex" is catching up!
