Hi,

I think the one thing I'm ALWAYS ALWAYS looking for when it comes to MacBooks is a good cover or case. Back in the day with earlier generations I used to go for silicon hard cases. I used to find them everywhere and they kept my laptops clean for years. I have a habit of cleaning my laptop once a week and when I remove the case once a week to clean it, it kept it in its pristine state.

Over the years; however, I noticed these silicon cases are not as popular. Now I mostly find the plastic ones. Many of them are really cheap and I already tried 2 models with my 2017/2018 new MacBooks and they are already breaking in edges. I'm a clean user so I don't move the laptop a lot or travel with it a lot but I feel I want something to protect it.

I finally decided maybe I don't need a cover altogether since it's usually on a table or a mount but then I watched a video and someone said they could easily get scratched from a wire or USB or HD. At the same time others say the hard shell cases add weight to the screen and will loosen the hinges of the laptop over time. I did notice my old laptops loosening up but that's probably because I've used them for a decade.

I'm really curious how do people protect their laptops? Do you only use a sleeve?

I've seen people at work that simply use a soft sleeve and keep their laptops free without a case but seeing scratches all over it annoys me.

Any suggestions, tips, ideas?

I don't protect my MacBook, or anything, beyond avoiding hard knocks. It just goes into my backpack and gets carried around with everything else. Has done since I bought it, and left the box and packing in the shop.

Stuff is made to be used, not to be kept pristine. Picking up the odd scratch or dent is normal in everyday life..... Live with it.

I have never felt the need to put a case on any of my laptops - scratches are only cosmetic and don’t in any way impact the functionality of the machine. I move my laptop back and forth from work to home every day in my backpack, and have done so for years without issue. My machines, after about 5 years, do have some minor scratches, but nothing major. The aluminum is pretty durable.
