GoodReaderLite solution

You can email the PDF to yourself (to a web browser-based email program) and then download GoodReaderLite for free. In the application, go to "Browse the web" and type in the URL of your email. Then download the attachment and it will show up in GoodReaderLite under My Documents. You can use the features of the app to enlarge the text on the PDF, otherwise it's almost impossible to read on an iphone. This is what I had to do from my iphone 2g because it's old..

I usually use ReaddleDocs with ReaddleStorage which is free (if you take basic 512 mb). You just upload your files there and sync ReaddleDocs on the device with it (automatically). It also support FTP, webdav, DropBox, file management, attachments and so on.
But if you're looking for a free solution - just go for Dropbox.

I bought the .99 cent app - GoodReader.

It's great, not only can you save pdf to your iPhone, but it allows you to download any file type and you can wirelessly transfer it to your Mac or Windows PC, upload it to your drop box account, so many great features!

I highly recommend this app, it's the best dollar I ever spent!

Instead of signing up to things like Dropbox or buying apps, you can easily sync PDF files in itunes to be used in iBooks

Simply go to file > add to library

Choose your pdf and then when its added to itunes, right click and select 'get info'. You'll want to make sure the media type is set to 'book' and click ok

Sync your iphone and job done, itll be on ibooks

Thats what I do. I carry a pdf of my Laptop owners manual, car manuals and a bunch of other documentation I put in ibooks.

pdf to iphone

If you download the iBook application from iTunes. You can load PDFs to your iBook shelf from iTunes and vis versa

or if some one sends you a PDF via mail or you open a PDF in safari. it will give you the option to open it in iBook

One more vote for Dropbox!
You can even use it to open PDF files in GoodReader which does a great job with large PDFs.
