iPad How do you sell 7th Gen iPad after factory reset

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit lost, I just bought a brand new iPad 10th Gen and want to sell my old one. After doing the factory reset I'm not sure how to show the new customer or even at the pawnshop showing it's working fine.

I must re-sign in to my account for setup and follow along?

How does one sell an iPad after factory reset and erasing everything since it just says "Hello" afterwards

I had the same issue when I sold my 7th Gen iPad last year. I sold it via FaceBook Marketplace to a local person who came to my house. The "Hello" screen was proof to him that it worked, and he trusted me on the amount of storage I said it had. I suspect that his knowing where I lived gave him some peace of mind, as opposed to my having him meet me in a shopping-center parking lot or some other location. The same was true when I sold an iPhone and a 2012 Mac mini several years ago -- the buyers came to my house, I swore I was being honest about the specs and condition of the devices, and the buyers decided to trust me. I've been told I have an honest face. 😊

If that approach doesn't work for you, then you might need to set it up again with your account and then video yourself doing a factory reset.

EDIT: Not that it makes any difference, but I had an iPad 5th gen, not 7th gen.

I had the same problem trading s MacBook into Best Buy. I had to sign into my account but their wifi sucked and it was taking forever so I ended up leaving and doing it at home and brought it back logged in.

I sold an iPhone a few months ago and in the setup (hello screen I think), there is the “i” button that you can click and it’ll show all the relevant info. Not sure if iPad has this or not.

If you have the receipt for the iPad, I keep mine in the Files/iCloud Drive app so I can access it on my phone, you can show that to them which will show the specs such as storage and they can verify the serial numbers on the back of the device and on the receipt and what you paid if that might influence their decision to buy it.

I'm glad it's not just me, I figure because it's an older iPad running IOS 16 maybe they locked the feature out. I think it's crazy after factory reseting and logging out of iCloud you can't show it working to the new buyer.

I want to show the battery life percentage

I've thought about using my iPhone as a hotspot and setting it up and just doing the reset there.
