Hi All,

Been reading good things about leaving the MBA on overnight:
E.g.
https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/pr...-just-let-it-sleep-which-is-best-for-your-mac

In Big Sur though, Where is the setting for POWER NAPS?

Is it now:
1. Have the MBA plugged into power.
2. simply to set it to go to sleep?

Or is it:
1. Have the MBA plugged into power.
2. Tick "Prevent Computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" option

Hope you can advise

Regards
Martin

Hello again Robert! :)

Would this work with the MacBook not plugged into power? Or does the MacBook simply go to sleep, no overnight indexing et cetera, until it’s plugs back into the mains?

Hope you can advise

Tonight, as a treat, I’ve plugged her into power downstairs, and leaving the Wi-Fi on all night!

Let’s see if the Safari is less choppy, et cetera after a good nights maintenance :)

Regards
Martin

"Power Nap" functionality happens automatically on M1 Macs.

Why wouldn't you leave the wifi on all night?

Looks like powernap is always on on M1 macs, as is tcpkeepalive. I turned both off with pmset.

I really don't like when my computer does things when I am not there, I see many more negatives to that than positives. Or worse doesn't sleep but keeps waking up to see if it shouldn't do some stuff.

If they keep doing this I will have to go back to turning the computer off with the off button - why not leave sleep mode be a real sleep mode, why does it have to do things?

Modern computers do all kinds of things when you're not there, and it shouldn't bother you. We live in a connected world. Email, messaging, backups, cloud syncing, airtag tracking, software updating, file system maintenance, cache maintenance–all of these things make your user experience better.
