How do you stop macOS Sierra and Safari from auto downloading and set it to prompt or is it bug in macOS Sierra? You on the internet and click on link and it auto downloads to the downloads folder!! I notice some pictures display in Safari and other pictures just download to the downloads folder!!

And if you use google image search or bing image search some pictures display in Safari and other pictures just download to the downloads folder!!

OS macOS Sierra Version 10.12
Safari 10.0

I know there was a way to set it to prompt than auto download, but I forgot how I did it in past using older OS and older Safari!! Unless this is bug in the newer OS and Safari and Apple have not fixed it yet.

Is this what you're looking for :

Safari -> Preferences -> General -> at the bottom of that pane, untick "Open "safe" files after downloading....."

While in General, you might want to change "File download location" to "Ask for each download".

(I'm on 10.11, but I'm pretty sure Sierra is the same.)
